“While on active duty I always wanted to get my PMP certification, but I never committed. So, when I learned though TGPS (aka TAPS) that the IVMF funded one professional certification to all transitioning veterans through the O2O program, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. The IVMF staff then exponentially increased the value of the program by providing a week of transition content to help us understand how to market ourselves in a non-military environment. There were excellent speakers, and many new resources were made available to the cohort that I never knew existed. The coursework took a lot longer than I expected, but the IVMF staff was always there with encouragement and reminders. They kept me focused and working. When gathering my project management experiences, I was surprised to see how much of my military experience translated and made getting accepted by the Project Management Institute less stressful. Getting that passing score on the PMP exam now gives me something tangible to show that my military experiences can translate to valuable and highly desirable skills outside the military.
